Milpitas is a great city and I want to help make it better. My three priorities are: Increase Public Safety, Promote Economic Development and Managed Growth, andStrengthen The Partnership between Milpitas Unified School District and the City of Milpitas.
Milpitas is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Milpitas continues to grow due to the addition of BART and open space. The addition of housing calls for additional infrastructure. At the top of the list would be the addition of Police Officers and Fire Fighters and the equipment they need. We need to ensure that our Police, Fire, and Emergency Services needs match the growth in Milpitas.
We need to promote a balance between business and residential growth that generates the revenue for streets, road repair and infrastructure. My goal on City Council would be to ensure that economic development is emphasized so that sufficient income is provided for additional public safety needs. This would be looking at fees on residential development and aggressive tactics to attract large and small business entities to Milpitas to provide the funds for infrastructure.
The number one concern voiced by parents and commuters is the conditions of our roads and time it takes to get across town. I will actively support the passage of the VTA sales tax so as to bring $44 million dollars for road improvements directly to the City of Milpitas and improvements to Montague Expressway.
As a trustee of the Milpitas Unified School Board, I know how to collaborate with City Hall. i have worked over the last two years to bring the two public agencies closer together. By sitting on the City Council, I will be in the position to elevate this relationship to a higher level.
There are going to be opportunities for joint projects such as a high school community performing arts center, education center/sales tax incentive, sharing incentives, etc. My goal would be to lead this effort from the City Council seat.
During my time on the school board , we’ve also provided joint Use of Samuel Ayers High School Site for Educational Purposes and Community Services and assist in locating future school sites
